Picking The Right Business For You

January is almost over but 3-4 weeks ago, you may have decided that you wanted to do something more this year but haven’t yet found a company that feels like the right fit!

Or, if you’re like me, you swore never to join an MLM and it kind of snuck up on you!

And if you Google “How to Choose a Network Marketing Company” Wikihow is going to give you some very practical steps to follow:

  1. Understand how these companies are marketed.

  2. Look at how long the company has been in business.

  3. Check to see if the company is a member of the Better Business Bureau or other business organizations.

  4. Try to learn as much as possible about the company itself.

  5. Analyze the product or products you will be marketing.

  6. Examine the Compensation Plan.

  7. Consider training and support.

And you should definitely take these into consideration! These are all really important when deciding what company to join. But, I wanted to add my own list and tell you the things that I found to be really valuable when looking at a company to join!

How Much Does It Cost To Join?

Starting a business costs money. Every MLM will give you a spiel about how “it costs money to make money”, “it’s like buying your own franchise…” but truth be told, it shouldn’t cost you a lot of money to get started. Make sure your initial investment is getting you something AND that you can start building your business without buying everything under the sun to make it work. For example, Senegence does not require their distributors to hold onto inventory. They have the option to send all of their sales through the corporate website and still get credit!

Do You Love The Product?

When it comes to joining a company, I think it’s important to love the product. I love makeup. Always have. Probably always will. I love that with Senegence, I literally get paid to play with makeup and share it with others. And there is nothing better than seeing the look on someone’s face when they feel beautiful - it’s seriously awesome. With Senegence, I’ve been able to not only help clear my skin and give myself better options, but it has helped hundreds of thousands of women discover their love of makeup. Not only that, but Senegence’s products are unique in formulation and wear + they can be used in so many different ways!

If makeup and skincare isn’t your thing, look for a company that has a product line that matches your own interests. You’re going to be able to speak more knowledgeably, share with enthusiasm, and be honest in all the ways you communicate about it.

And if you’re unsure, ask yourself this: Would you share about this product even if you weren’t paid to do so?

Is The Community The Right One For You?

This may not seem like an important question but it’s one of the most important in my book. Do you love the community? This community becomes like a second family. You will share more struggles, heartache, wins, successes, joy - and everything in between with these people. They will mentor and teach you, and expect you to be able to do it to individuals you introduce into the business. More importantly, does the community have a culture that mirrors your own and upholds the same morals and values? Are they ethical in their business practices and how they communicate to people?

Look at the CEO of the company. Is that someone you could look up to? Leadership is everything in MLM, and if you don’t have people at the top that you can look up to, learn from, and genuinely respect, move on. They say you become like the 5 people you spend the most time with - make sure your new company is full of people that will help you rise.

Is There A Clear Path?

Can you see someone’s progression? Can you see how they got to where they are today? Is there work transparent? I say this because some leaders hold everything very close to their chest. They don’t want anyone to know their secrets. But the truth is, with a good leader, all secrets are revealed. There is no secret sauce. Ultimately, everyone can have the same exact knowledge and the only thing that sets the successful apart from the non-successful is the work. Those who do it and those who do not. A good leader has a clear path. They can show you step-by-step how they got to the top. They will share with you their experience and wisdom and allow you to decide whether or not you want to do the work. If someone can’t show you their path and plan, it might be time to look elsewhere.

One more thing to add to this one: Are the leaders doing the same work they’re telling you to do? If they’re sitting back and just enjoying the spoils of their previous work, chances are they’re losing touch with how things are being done NOW and they won’t be able to show you to grow beyond themselves.

and last but not least…

Is This The Right Time For You?

It’s always the right time to make money, right? But is it the right time for you to jump into something new?

Riches, cars, big houses, and a whole lot of vacations are super appealing for those looking at the network marketing industry but in reality, not every makes the big bucks. It takes work, a lot of hours and a lot of sweat equity to make your business go. It requires investing time and money. It requires attending events, stepping outside your comfort zone and stepping into a business you never knew you wanted.

You might be saying, “Wait a minute, Katie. Aren’t you supposed to be talking me into the business?”

No. I shouldn’t have to talk you into anything - no one should. If you’ve done your homework and can answer all the questions above with answers that satisfy you, you’ll know if you should join a business or not.

3 years ago, I wasn’t looking for a business. I was working as a nail tech and absolutely loving what I was doing. I had one of my clients introduce me to Senegence and the rest is history. I didn’t want a business. I definitely didn’t want to be in network marketing, and if you met me then, there’s no way you could have convinced me that this is where I would be today.

In those 3 years my husband has quit his job, we’ve paid for cars in cash, we’ve gotten a house, we have travelled all over the world on someone else’s dime and I make a great income (#2 in sales and recruiting this month).

Just this past year Keawe (the hot husband) has had some pretty serious health issues but because of my business, I’ve had the freedom to take as much time as I needed while my business has still grown. My community has been there and had my back, the leaders have surrounded me with support and love, I love talking about these products and share them every chance I get, and I always get a return on my investment.

So make sure you ask the important questions before diving in - and happy business hunting!

xx Katie
